FAQ

The hiking portion of the tour is classified as moderate, meaning it demands a reasonable level of physical fitness due to the challenging and steep terrain of the Tablelands. However, we understand that every hiker has different capabilities and goals. Therefore, we’ve designed the hike with three distinct levels, allowing guests to tailor their experience to their personal abilities. You’re welcome to set your own pace and, if needed, turn back at any point during the excursion. Our aim is to ensure everyone feels comfortable and empowered to enjoy the breathtaking landscape at their own pace.

The off-trail hike at the Tablelands usually commences around 12:30 PM daily, with an anticipated return time of around 5 or 6 PM for those completing the full hike. However, we recommend checking with us the day before to confirm the exact start time, as it may vary depending on various factors such as weather conditions and group size. If your group requires an alternate start time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can accommodate your needs effectively. We’re here to ensure your hiking experience is both enjoyable and convenient.

This question is commonly asked, and the response varies based on your hiking preferences. Both trails offer steep ascents, breathtaking views, and unique scenery. The main difference lies in their length and the vistas they provide. We recommend reviewing the descriptions of both trails to decide which one suits you best. However, many of our guests find the Tablelands Half Day hike to be perfect. It offers a moderate trek with magnificent views and fits well into most schedules.

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable hike, we recommend bringing along some essential items. These include plenty of water to stay hydrated, snacks to keep your energy levels up, appropriate clothing for changing weather conditions and the activities planned, sturdy hiking boots for stability on uneven terrain, a day pack to carry your belongings, sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun’s glare, and hiking poles for added support and balance.

yes !! At the summit, hikers can anticipate awe-inspiring panoramic vistas showcasing Gros Morne’s rich array of landscapes. You’ll be treated to sweeping views of the lookout hills, the majestic Bonne Bay fjords, and the striking glacier cirque famously referred to as “the bowl.” These vistas offer a breathtaking glimpse into the natural beauty and diversity of Gros Morne, making the climb well worth the effort.

We warmly welcome children on the Tablelands hike. However, for younger children, a private hiking tour may offer a more tailored experience. We can customize the itinerary to accommodate their abilities and interests, ensuring a family-friendly adventure that’s enjoyable for everyone. Don’t hesitate to reach out so we can arrange the perfect hiking experience for your family’s needs and preferences

It’s crucial to bring sufficient water for the Tablelands off trail hike as there are no natural water sources available along the route. Carrying at least 2 liters of water per person is recommended, especially during the summer months when temperatures can rise significantly, potentially leading to quicker dehydration if the wind is not present to cool the area.

The Tablelands, with their nutrient-poor soil, support a limited range of wildlife. Despite this, the Tablelands off trail hike takes you to the summit of the mountain where sightings of caribou, ptarmigan, arctic hare, and occasionally moose are not uncommon. These animals are adapted to the challenging environment, making even brief encounters in this stark landscape particularly special.

Indeed, the Tablelands guided hike is a highlight of the Gros Morne Hiking Festival. For more details, you’re encouraged to visit the official festival site at hikegrosmorne.com.
