Family Charter FAQ

Everything you need to know about Gros Morne's favourite family boat tour.

What is the Bonne Bay Explorer Family Charter?
It is a private, family-oriented boat tour focusing on hands-on exploration, marine life, and a fun beach landing in Gros Morne National Park.
Is this tour private or will we share the boat?
This charter is 100% private. It is exclusively for your family. There are no strangers, allowing you to enjoy quality time on the water at your own pace.
How long does the charter last?
The standard tour lasts for exactly 2 hours. However, since it is a private charter, longer tours can be arranged upon request.
What kind of boat do you use?
We use a commercial grade Zodiac. It is an open-air vessel designed for maximum safety, stability, and comfort for families.
Where does the tour depart from?
Our main departure point is our private dock located at 232 Bonne Bay Road in the beautiful community of Shoal Brook.
Can we get picked up in Norris Point?
Yes! If you are staying on the north side of the park, we offer convenient boat pickups at the Norris Point public dock.
Is this tour suitable for toddlers?
Absolutely. This tour was designed specifically with families and young explorers in mind. It is safe, engaging, and highly recommended for all ages.
Do we get off the boat during the tour?
Yes! A major highlight is our remote beach landing. We stop so kids and adults can explore tide pools, find sea glass, and search for driftwood.
What kind of wildlife might we see?
Bonne Bay is full of life. We often spot whales, dolphins, jellyfish, and sea birds. During the beach landing, we look for crabs, starfish, and other small sea creatures.
Is this an educational tour?
Very much so. Our guides focus on fun, interactive learning about local ecosystems, marine biology, and the unique geology of the fjord.
Do you provide life jackets for kids?
Yes. We provide Transport Canada approved life jackets for all passengers, including specially sized vests for infants, toddlers, and young children.
What should we wear and bring?
Dress in warm layers and bring a waterproof jacket. We highly recommend bringing water shoes or sandals that are easy to take off for the beach exploring portion of the trip.
Can we bring our own snacks and drinks?
Yes! While meals are not provided, you are completely welcome to bring your own snacks, juice boxes, and water for your family to enjoy on the boat or the beach.
Is there a restroom on the boat?
Our Zodiac is an open adventure boat, so there is no washroom on board. We recommend using the clean facilities at our Shoal Brook location before departure.
Will the boat ride be rough or scary for kids?
Not at all. We specifically plan our routes in the sheltered waters of the fjord, and the Zodiac design provides an incredibly smooth and stable ride.
Are dogs allowed on this charter?
Yes! Because this is a private family charter, your well-behaved pet is welcome to join the adventure.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We operate rain or shine, but safety always comes first. If conditions are unsafe due to high winds, we will contact you to reschedule or provide a full refund.
How early should we arrive before departure?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time so we can properly fit everyone for life jackets and complete a quick safety briefing.
What is your cancellation policy?
We offer a full refund, minus 15%, if cancelled at least 48 hours in advance. Tours cancelled within 48 hours are non-refundable.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Our private family charters are extremely popular and sell out quickly during the summer months. We highly recommend booking online as early as possible.
