Gros Morne Dining FAQ

Your guide to the best eats, treats, and hiking lunches in the park.

Where can I get the best Lobster Roll in Gros Morne?
Our Lightkeepers Cafe is famous for its fresh Newfoundland Lobster Rolls. We use locally sourced Atlantic lobster, lightly dressed to let the flavour shine, served on a fresh bun. It’s the perfect lunch with a view of Bonne Bay.
Do you sell hiking lunches to go?
Yes! We are the "Last Stop Before the Wilderness." You can grab our signature Hikers Lunch which includes a hearty sandwich (like Roast Chicken or Smoked Meat), a fresh salad, and a protein bar or baked treat. Perfect for the Tablelands or Green Gardens trails.
Is there a place to eat near the Tablelands?
Yes. We are located at Shoal Brook (The Water's Edge), just a 7-minute drive from the Tablelands trailhead. We are the closest spot for fresh coffee, hot meals, and post-hike refueling on the south side of the park.
Can I find Moose meat on the menu?
Absolutely. For a true taste of Newfoundland, try our Moose Sandwich. It’s a local favourite and a bucket-list item for many visitors. Availability depends on our local supply, so arrive early!
Do you have Vegan or Vegetarian options?
Yes, we believe adventure fuel is for everyone. We offer delicious vegan wraps, fresh garden salads, and vegetarian sandwiches. Our daily soups often feature plant-based recipes as well.
Do you serve Gluten-Free food?
Yes, we have gluten-free bread options for our sandwiches and often carry GF baked goods. However, please note that we operate in a small kitchen where flour is present, so cross-contamination is possible for those with severe allergies.
Where is the Lighthouse Eats Food Truck located?
The Food Truck is permanently parked at Water's Edge Campground in Shoal Brook. It’s right on the waterfront, offering outdoor picnic table seating with a spectacular view of the fjord.
Do I need a reservation?
No reservations are required for the Cafe or Food Truck. We operate on a counter-service basis. However, for large groups or our private "Beach Boil Up" events, advanced booking is strictly required.
What time do you open for breakfast?
We open at 9:00 AM daily. Start your day with hot coffee (locally roasted beans), tea, and our freshly made breakfast sandwiches before you hit the trails.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes! We have a beautiful oceanfront deck at Lightkeepers Cafe and picnic tables at the Food Truck. Watch for whales and eagles in Bonne Bay while you enjoy your lunch.
Can I order food for a boat tour?
Yes. Our "Pack a Picnic" service is designed exactly for this. You can pick up a travel-ready lunch to take with you on your Zodiac Boat Tour or Kayak rental. No need to go hungry on the water.
Is the cafe dog friendly?
Our outdoor patio and deck are 100% pet-friendly! We love meeting adventure dogs. While pets aren't allowed inside the food prep area (health regulations), they are very welcome to join you for lunch outside.
What is a "Beach Boil Up"?
The Beach Boil Up is our signature private dining experience for groups (20+ people). We cook fresh seafood, mussels, and lobster right on the beach or in our boathouse, often accompanied by live music and a "Screech-In" ceremony.
Do you serve alcohol?
The Cafe focuses on specialty coffees and artisanal sodas. However, for our private group events and "Beach Boil Ups," we can arrange bar service. We also recommend the Elements Pub at the Bonne Bay Inn for a post-hike beer.
Is there parking for RVs and Buses?
Yes. We have ample parking at Water's Edge Campground that can accommodate large RVs and motorcoaches. It’s an easy, stress-free stop for lunch.
Do you have fresh seafood?
It doesn't get fresher. We are located in a fishing community. We source Cod, Halibut, Mussels, and Lobster from local harvesters whenever in season.
Can I pre-order lunch for my hiking group?
Yes. For hiking groups or bus tours, we highly recommend calling ahead (709-453-2020) to pre-order your hiking lunches. This ensures we have everything packed and ready for your departure time.
Are you open during the Gros Morne Hiking Festival?
Yes, we are open and fully stocked during the Hiking Festival in September. It is one of our favourite times of year!
Do you have kids' meals?
Yes, we offer kid-friendly favourites like grilled cheese, plain wraps, and cookies. The Food Truck environment is very casual and perfect for families with active children.
Do you sell local baked goods?
Yes! Our bakery counter features traditional Newfoundland treats like Partridgeberry Muffins, "Five Star" bars, and jumbo cookies. They are the perfect energy booster for the trail.
